This Saturday I'm doing a talk.
It's part of Artist Resource Collective LA West, a free all-day event in Santa Monica put together by ARC (powered by YoungArts) and the City of Santa Monica Cultural Affairs. May 30, 10:30am to 5pm at Miles Memorial Playhouse.
My session is called "If You Don't Ask, The Answer is Always No" and it's basically everything I know about finding and using resources to actually make your work. Where to look. How to ask. What to do when you feel weird about asking (which is most of us, most of the time). And reciprocity — because community isn't just about what you need, it's about what you can give back.
The whole day is stacked. Virginia Broersma from The Artist's Office is talking about building meaningful relationships with intention. David Thomson is doing a practical personal finance workshop designed specifically for artists. And there's a contracts workshop with Cara Miller covering the stuff that trips people up — NDAs, consignment, licensing, what makes an email legally binding (spoiler: it can be).
Plus food. Plus a legal café with actual consultations.
All of it free.
Saturday, May 30 10:30am to 5pm Miles Memorial Playhouse 1130 Lincoln Blvd, Santa Monica, CA 90403
There's also a Sunday event on the east side — 939 Chung King Rd in Chinatown, 11am to 4pm. Come to one or both.
Come say hi. Bring your questions. Bring a friend who keeps saying they'll figure out their taxes later.
See you soon! Kristine
