Coastline Community College Art Gallery presents an insightful and intimate exhibition of Southern California artist Tony Pinto’s artwork from three decades in his inaugural solo exhibition at the gallery, entitled “Modern History.”
This exhibition explores a number of Pinto’s series throughout his artistic career, from graduate school through today, and highlights how classical antiquities have influenced and motivated the connecting concepts and stylistic tendencies that have created Pinto’s specific artistic style.
Through a series of artistic investigations, Pinto examines the humanity in art history and the importance of artistic techniques and traditions present throughout the entire canon of art history, from ancient Greece and Rome all the way through contemporary practices. With innovative use of appropriation, painting, drawing, photography, collage, technological play and conceptual exploration, Pinto’s work is a curious and cathartic adventure through personal and cultural experiences in art and art history.
Through this work, Pinto forces the viewer to look within and examine personal perspectives of the power of images, our own human history, and concepts such as identity, community and legacy.
