You are not alone

I've been thinking about artists in our community.
I'm watching what's happening in the world and in the art world and I'm genuinely wondering how you're doing.
Because I know what's going on out there. People are spending less. Collectors are pulling back. Shows are harder to sell from. AND get in to. The economy is doing what it does and artists feel it first and loudest because we were already operating on the margins before any of this started.
And at the same time, something else is happening.
Artists are creating like I haven't seen in years. Really making work. Digging in. Asking the big questions about what they want their practice to be, what kind of career actually fits their life, what success means to them now versus what they thought it meant five years ago. Artists are seeking out community, mentors, coaches, support. Not because they're failing. Because they're paying attention.
I find myself in the middle of all of it and honestly it's where I want to be.
I keep a close eye on what's happening in the LA art world and beyond so I can bring that back to you. Not as bad news. As context. As information you can actually use to figure out your next move.
That's what Shoebox has always been about. A low cost community for artists during the confusing times, the discombobulated times, the times when you're not sure if what you're feeling is burnout or grief or clarity trying to break through.
If you are confused right now, come find your people.
If you are frustrated, come find your people.
If you are lost, numb, stressed, anxious, grieving, any of it, come find your people.
Not because we have all the answers. Because you shouldn't have to sit with all of it alone. There are other artists dealing with the exact same things. The same losses. The same fears. The same middle of the night questions about whether any of this is worth it.
It is. And you are not alone in asking.
Tuesday Community Conversations are free and open to every artist. Every Tuesday 11am PST on Zoom. No membership required. Just come as you are.
And if you want more, the full Shoebox community is here. Weekly programming, professional development, a community that actually shows up for each other.
Come find us.
